I began my career as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor in the late 1980s working with adolescents and parents. I eventually became a program director and over the following 15 years I owned and managed programs in Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. In addition to my staff responsibilities, as Program Director, I worked closely with parents and facilitated our family education programs.
After many years in the addiction field I decided to change paths and pursued a career in higher education. In 2007, I completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and became the Director of Colorado State University’s Executive MBA Program. At CSU, I experienced a world-class educational environment and worked with executives and business faculty from a many different industries and disciplines. I developed a two year leadership coaching program that concentrated on emotional intelligence for executives and I hosted international study tours to China, Germany, Peru and Russia.
The success of the executive learning environment inspired me to develop a high school program for students dealing anxiety and depression issues. It was called it a Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) and I worked as the Founder and Director for five years. During my time at the TLC I was introduced to Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB) and implemented some of the concepts with our students and parents. CEB was the most effective program for emotions I had ever encountered. It was so impactful that I decided to become a certified as a teacher and dedicate my career to teaching CEB. The CEB Teacher Training was a transformative experience for me and fundamentally changed how I understand and work with emotions.
The focus of my CEB teaching is on supporting the families and loved ones of people with mental health, addiction and other chronic health issues. I also work with professionals who are dealing with difficult emotions in the workplace. From my personal experience, I understand how difficult these issues can be. And even in the most difficult situations, we can create emotional balance in ourselves and in our relationships with others.
